Annie Mae Lewis was born July 22, 1947 in Ruston, Louisiana to the union of Josephine Shelton and Milton Ellis. She was the seventh child of fifteen children. She met and married Frank Lewis, moved to Dallas, and to this union three children were born. She attended Peaceful Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Andrew Monk. In the early years, she was a kindergarten teacher and later in life she worked for DFW airport as a house attendant, which she later retired from and became a housewife.

Annie Mae was a loving mother and wife. She would open her door to anybody that needed shelter and fed anyone that was famished. So, we fell that Jesus was with her in her last hour and he put his everlasting arms beneath her and held her fast. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the hearts that knew her dearly. Annie will be lovingly remembered by her children: Conley Williams (Nick), Nikayla Harge (Ray), Gary Shelton, Clara Edwards, all of Dallas; five grandchildren: Vinta Williams (Jatoya), Dontae Williams, Jessica Johnson (Melvin), Janieshia and Jakayla Reed; one godson, Jeremy Bursey; twelve great grandchildren, three deceased.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lewis; daughter, Jessica Lewis; aunt, Sara Reed; fourteen siblings: Johnny M. Ellis, Jesse J. Ellis, Georgia Jones, Melinda Lewis, Sylvia Shelton, Helen McCain, Lucell Welber, Jenne Brown, and preceded in death, Jesse L. Ellis, James E. Ellis, Andrew King, Ruby Sampson, Fannie Sampson, Patricia Wallace, and host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
