Mrs. Avis Shamain Griffin- Blanton, daughter of the late Willis Griffin, Sr. and Quinctella Cunning, was born in Tyler, Texas on March 28, 1973. She graduated from Lindale public schools in Lindale, Texas. At an early age she united with Walnut Springs Missionary Baptist Church where Avis was a faithful member until she became a member of Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member on the Usher Ministry, Director for the Senior Ushers, Youth leader for the Youth Ushers, as well as the Comfort and Support team for the Ushers. Avis served as a Leader with the Couples in Christ Ministry and was also involved with the MFBC Youth Basketball team.

Avis was a faithful employee of AT&T, her self-proclaimed dream job, in Dallas, Texas where she was employed for 18 years in many different roles.

On Sunday March 5, 2017, Avis Shamain Griffin- Blanton departed this life at Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite, Texas surrounded by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory a husband of 12 years Kendrick Blanton, a son Khalil Griffin both of Mesquite, Texas: a sister Sarah Griffin of Lindale, Texas: two brothers, Willis Griffin Jr of Tyler, Texas and Damon Griffin of Irving, Texas; A sister-in-law: Stephanie Blanton and a brother in law: Lamont Blanton both of Dallas, Nieces: Courtney Pringle of Addison, Texas; Shimeka Battles of Tyler, Texas; Nephews: LaWaylon Battles of Houston, Texas; Terance Hargest and Javante Lauderdale-Blanton of Richardson, Texas and many other relatives and friends.
