Bertha Mae Cooks was born 4th of 12 siblings to Bernice and A.D. Lampkin on November 1, 1943 in Marshall, Texas, both of whom preceded her in death. In her early years, she served as a sales associate in downtown Dallas at Learner’s Shop for 20 plus years. Where she retired and shortly returned back to work for her sister Hazel Grady as a chef. Bertha went on to start her own family with Arthur Cooks, together they shared four children.
She later met a man by the name of Roy Jackson, they shared 40 plus years of union. She attended FMBC (Faithful Missionary Baptist Church) where she followed under the leadership of Pastor N.C. Sargent for 30 plus years. She loved her pastor and Church. She was a Pastor Aide where she soon became President of Pastor Aide. Bertha was saved at an early age and from that day forward, she decided to serve and follow him to the Promise Land. Before Bertha became ill, there was nothing impossible for her through Christ Jesus. The Sky was most definitely the limit. Hard working, God fearing country girl best describes her. Her advice was pure, her work ethnic was unmatched and her cooking was the top of the line, the little lady could burn and she loved that we enjoyed that about her.
Bertha Mae left behind four loving children; Windell Jones (Sherrie), Lenora Brown (Charles), Jennifer Cooks, Barbara Cooks, 11 grandchildren; Donielle Choyce, Adriane Blakemore, Delicia Choyce, Lakendra Cooks, Nicholas Cooks, Marcus Cooks, Eros Cooks, Windell Jones Jr., Leandra Brown, Franche Cooks, Melvin Conley III, 17 great grandchildren; Sha’Quria Goff, Bishop Jackson, Demarcus Goff Jr., Mevlin Conley IV, Cario Cooks, Carter Cooks, Kameron Cooks, Kamarie Conley, Brielle Conley, Caleb Choyce, Harper Choyce, Cayla Batty, Carsyn Batty, Mikayla Jones, Maliyah Jones, Tradarion Cooks, Shamar Cooks, 8 siblings; Vera Horton, Hazel Grady, Rosezell Henderson, Derolyn Harris, Landon Horton, J.D. Lampkin, Waymon Lampkin, Norman Lampkin, a host of beloved family members and friends. On January 6, 2020, she told Jesus to come take her home for she could not wait any longer to be with her king.
