Charles Alexander Franklin was born to Wayne Franklin and Laura Cleaver Franklin in Troupe, Texas on May 27, 1934.
He received his formal education in the Arp ISD school system and graduated from Arp Industrial School. During his early years, Charles attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Troupe, Texas.
On November 30, 1955, Charles enlisted into the United States Army in Dallas, TX. While serving in the Army, Charles became drawn to learn more about God and the Bible. It was during this time that he accepted Christ as Savior. This decision would become the single most important factor that shaped the remainder of his life and legacy.
Charles was united in holy matrimony with Erma Jean Nolan on March 23,1957 in Overton, Texas. Charles and Erma remained married for 47 years before Erma passed away in October 15, 2014. Their union was blessed with 4 children: Charlotte, Solomon, Ornan, and Gaius.
Following his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on April 30, 1962, Charles settled in San Antonio, TX where he was last stationed. Charles began his career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. He later attended San Antonio College and completed studies and certification to become a Respiratory Therapist. After working 29 years as a Respiratory Therapist, Charles commenced his retirement in 1998 .
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Laura Franklin; his devoted wife, Erma Jean Franklin; nine brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Franklin of Crandall, TX; three sons, Solomon and his wife Priscilla Franklin of San Antonio, TX with their children and grandchildren; Chloe (Louis) Dorsey, Aaron (Eranisha) Franklin and Prisca (Gemoh) Tihfon; Ornan Franklin of San Antonio, TX with his children and grandchildren, Quentin Dilworth and Israel Fulton; Gaius and his wife Sheri Franklin of Heartland, TX with their children Terrance Wallace, Craig Allen and Brooklyn Franklin; one sister, Gladys Butler of Tyler, TX; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
