God graciously called Debbie McGail Morris home to Heaven on March 9, 2017, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on October 3, 1966 to the union of Willie & Eva Rogers in Monroe, Louisiana. Debbie met her best friend Rodney Morris in 1993 and four years later – they were married. Rodney & Debbie had two son’s Branden Marquis Lawayne Watson and Jaylon Ladale Devon Morris.
At the age of 6 years old, Debbie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Macedonia Baptist Church in Rayville, Louisiana. Debbie joined Friendship West Baptist Church in 1975 under Rev. Robert L. Castle, Sr. (decease 1982), where she remained a faithful member under Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, until her death.
Debbie graduated David W. Carter High School in 1984. She started her college education at Bishop College in the fall of that year. She was a member of the. Alpha Angels little sister to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at Bishop College. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Debbie completed her Medical Assistant certification and worked for Dr. Hoffman’s clinic in 1989. Debbie moved careers to Parkland Hospital in 1994 where she worked as a medical assistant in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She then became a financial counselor for Parkland’s admitting department. She reentered school at Mountain View College and completed her Associates of Arts and Sciences degree from Mountain View in 1998. Debbie continued her education at Paul Quinn College receiving her Bachelors of Arts and Science in Elementary Education and Biology in 2001. She became certified in Elementary and Secondary Education. Debbie began her teaching career at Truett Elementary. She taught math and science at Truett from 2002 – 2006. Debbie demonstrated her ability to inspire students and get results, seeing her commitment to teaching the principal hand-selected Debbie to open a new school program at E.D. Walker Middle School where become the lead science teacher for 7th grade pre-AP classes. Debbie worked at Ed Walker from 2006-2015, she served on the leadership team, was a mentor teacher, Future Teacher advisor and A++ club leader. She was admired and respected by her colleagues for her expertise of Modifying and teaching lessons to students with special needs. Her passion for teaching was matched only by her compassion for her students.
Debbie showed unrelenting resilience and strength throughout her illness. She never complained and unconditionally continued to help others with a smile on her face. She will be so rely missed.
She is preceded in death by her oldest brother Steven Lawayne Rogers and her grandfather Sylvester Smith. She leaves to mourn her husband, Rodney Morris, Branden Watson, and Jaylon Morris. Her parents Willie G. Rogers, Sr. and Eva Nell Rogers. Her grandmother, Nancy Smith, siblings: Joyce M. Rogers, Sidney P. Muhammad, (Patricia), Regina Thompson (Nate), Willie G. Rogers, Jr (Nicole). Close friend and sister: Pamela Broussard and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
