Ernestine Johnson was born October 8, 1929 to the union of Solomon and Birdie McGee in Lindale, Texas. To this union eleven children were born . She attended Bragg Morris High School in Lindale, Texas.   She was introduced to Christ at an early age at Walnut Springs Baptist Church under her father Minister Solomon McGee.  She later met and married Oscar J. Johnson of Swan, Texas and to this union was born eight children.

 

She worked at Holiday Inn in Tyler, Texas as a chef for twenty years.  Ernestine relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1966 where she worked as a chef for several years. After retiring, she attended business school and became an entrepreneur. Her business “The Bargain Hut” became a beacon in the community for many years.

 

She joined Grace Chapel C.O.G.I.C in 1967 under the Pastorate of the late Bishop T.W. Johnson. She was a strong warrior of the family, and displayed amazing strength, character, and unconditional love. She accepted people where they were in life, and not where she wanted them to be. She was witty and loved to keep you entertained with her singing and humorous personality. She upheld the family in prayer and faith, SUCH AN AMAZING WOMAN!

 

On January 8, 2017 Ernestine was called from labor to reward.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Solomon and Birdie McGee, her husband Oscar J. Johnson, three sisters Theta Thornton, Birdie Love, and Eula V. Johnson and one brother, Lawrence McGee.  She leaves to celebrate her home going eight children Glenda Miller, Jerry Johnson, Roger (Christa) Johnson, Glenn (Barbara) Johnson, Lindsey (Deborah) Johnson, Lottie Collins, Treval (Cleo) Thomas, and Kim (Dian) Johnson; all of Dallas, Texas; thirty-eight grandchildren a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
