Erma Jean Smith was born on May 11, 1943 in Marshall, Texas to the parentage of Lee and Roberta Thomas.

 Erma received her formal education with the Dallas Public Schools.

 Erma accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age, and was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Harold Gill.

 Erma Jean started her career with HMRA and later transitioned to the Dallas Independent School District where she was a bus driver for 25 years.

 Erma Jean departed this life on December 29, 2016. She was preceded in death by her Father-Lee Thomas; Mother-Roberta Thomas; Brothers: Joe L. Thomas (Allie B.), R.T. Thomas, W.E. Thomas, W.D. Thomas (Peggy), Wendell Thomas and Perry Thomas; Sisters: Orna B. Lane, Q.T. Hearn, and R.V. Thomas; and Daughter: Sherry Lynn Thomas

 She leaves to cherish her memory: Sisters:  Pinkie Lee Henderson, Bobbie Ree Williams (James), Willie Mae Thomas; Children: Calvin Thomas, Sr. (Vera), Lanita Thomas and Frederick Smith; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved and will miss her dearly.
