John Louis Davis
John Louis Davis was born on March 28, 1946, in Palestine, Texas to the parentage of Willie B. Watkins Davis and Woodrow Davis. John is the youngest of four siblings, Ruby, CW, and Ivy. He accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord with all his heart. John was a 1964 graduate of Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. He loved athletics and excelled at basketball and football. He was awarded athlete of the year for the Dallas Independent School District, Dallas Colored Schools in 1964. He graduated from El Centro College in 1981 with an Associate’s Degree. He continued his education at The University of Texas at Arlington. He worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 33 years, and served as a substitute teacher for Dallas Independent School District for over 20 years.
While cruising the campus of Texas Woman’s University, he met the love of his life. John and Addie Marie Goode were married on April 10, 1971 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Denton, Texas. They have two children, Corance Obafemi Davis and Elyze Marie Davis. John and Addie joined Friendship West Baptist Church in 1976 under the pasturage of Robert L. Castle III. He grew with the church over the past 44 years under the leadership of Dr. Fredrick Douglas Haynes, III. He was also a member of the Annette Reid-Jordan Senior Adult Community.
On July 26, 2020, John Davis completed his course. John was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings (Crocket Willie Davis and Ivy Young). Left to honor his life are his wife, Addie Davis; son, Corance Obafemi Davis; daughter, Elyze Marie Davis; sister, Ruby Turner; brother-in-law, Larry Turner; sister-in-law and husband, Lillie and Wayne Wilson; sister-in-law, Gloria Johnson; sister-in-law, Betty Goode; brother-in-law, Robert Wayne Goode; mother-in-law, Addie Bell Goode, and a host of many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
