OBITUARY

Born on May 31, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Stacy and Dorothy Hawkins, John L. Hawkins was called to his heavenly home on March 20, 2024. After accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age , John was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in La Chute, Louisiana.He remained faithful to his Christian beliefs throughout his life.
After graduating from George Washington Carver High School inShreveport, Louisiana, in 1966, John attended Grambling College (Grambling State University) during the spring of 1967 and graduated during the summer of 1971.
John was united in holy matrimony to Jeanne Allen on June 10, 1972, at St. John the Baptist Church in Edgard, LA. They were blessed with two children, Melanie and Damien. They established their home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
His career as a mathematics teacher began at Roosevelt High School in Dallas, Texas, where he also served as varsity football offensive coordinator and assistant coach of the girl’s junior varsity basketball team.In 2014, John was honored with a twenty-five-year award from the Texas High School Coaches Association, Inc. His prolific career in education allowed him to impact the lives of thousands of high school students and athletes. After more than thirty years of service, John retired from the Dallas Independent School System.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Stacy and Dorothy Hawkins,and six brothers - Franklin Delano, Huey P., Robert Lee, Willie James, Lloyd Reese, and Stacy Hawkins, Jr.
Those left to cherish his love and memories include his devoted wife,Jeanne Hawkins (DeSoto, TX); his children, Melanie Hawkins (Red Oak, TX) and Damien Hawkins (Waxahachie, TX); his
John spent his leisure time playing dominoes with friends, watching his favorite professional and local sports teams, traveling with his wife, and listening to Gospel music for hours as he praised his Lord and Savior.
