Dallas

Mary Emmer Wyatt, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on November 21, 1938, in Groveton, Texas. She left this world peacefully on February 19, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, leaving behind a heartwarming legacy filled with love, compassion, and an unwavering spirit of giving.

Mary dedicated her life to nurturing the minds and hearts of children, touching countless lives during her years as a teacher at the Dallas Bethlehem Center. Her commitment to education stemmed from a profound desire to help others, and her students always knew they were in the presence of a true mentor who cared deeply about their well-being. Described by those who knew her as possessing a sweet spirit and a radiant smile, she embodied kindness and encouragement throughout her life.

An avid lover of arts and crafts, cooking, singing, and sewing, Mary infused joy and creativity into everything she did. Her remarkable ability to remember food recipes was legendary among her family, and she often found herself in the kitchen, whipping up delicious meals while sharing stories and laughter. Mary’s compassionate nature and willingness to lend a helping hand will be remembered by all who encountered her.

She graduated from Kaufman High School and later attended Dallas College. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she accepted Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of the Greater Wilson Street Church of God in Christ, where she fostered a strong sense of community.

Mary is survived by her loving children: Stacy (Patricia) Rivers from Dallas, Texas; Larry (Sharon) Wyatt from Cedar Hill, Texas; Pamalar Wyatt from Cedar Hill, Texas; and Andrea Wyatt from Cedar Hill, Texas. She was the cherished sister to Carla in Crockett, Texas, and revered by her brothers: Leo Rivers in Terrell, Texas; Walter Rivers in Kaufman, Texas; Ray Rivers in Mabank, Texas; and Jame Lee Oneal in Houston, Texas. Mary found immense joy in her family, proudly nurturing 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, creating an everlasting bond that will carry on through future generations.

Though she grieves the loss of her beloved family members, including her mother Robbie Rivers; her father Henderson Hodge Sr.; her husband Dan Wyatt; her sons Bobby Wyatt and Melvin Wyatt; her daughter Sandra Wyatt; her sisters Delores Ash and Charlitha Johnson; and her brothers Jimmy Rivers, William Rivers, Henderson Hodge Jr., and Maxie Lee Hodge, Mary leaves behind a legacy enriched by love and cherished memories.
