Melvin Charles Duncan departed this life for Eternal life on 21 April 2017, his home in Rockwall, Texas.
Melvin was gifted to Mr. Leo Duncan Sr. and Ms. Thelma Pairs-Duncan August 15, 1943, in New Orleans, LA. They later moved to Los Angeles at his tender age of 2 along with his siblings older and younger than himself. He accepted Christ as an adult and continued his faith at Church of Prayer in Rockwall.
Melvin was a gentle and loving husband, an attentive and caring father, a loving and beloved brother, and a true friend indeed, he never met a stranger. He was an intelligent man with fun-loving character and dignity, a man of strength and courage fearing nothing but God, but he was also very patient, sensitive, and a compassionate giver from his heart. Money didn’t mean anything unless he was blessing someone with it. He had friends of different races and/or nationalities which he called his brother or sister. Melvin was a gift from God to us.
After graduating from Manual Arts High School, he attended Los Angeles Community College. During college, he was hired on at North American Aviation (Aerospace) where he worked his way into management. North American Aviation later became part of Rockwell International where he continued his college education. Years later, Boeing acquired that division. Melvin retired in November 2004 as a Communications Manager after serving more than 42 years. He also assisted his brother Neal in running his print shop.
After almost 10 years of dating, Melvin and Bennitta became one on June 29, 2002. After his retirement from Boeing in Seal Beach, California; they later moved to Texas. When he saw this horse property it reminded him of his brother Leo who preceded him. He and Leo used to take care of horses in their early teens and dreamed of owning and riding horses one day. He felt his brother was always with him here in Texas. Melvin was quite the outdoorsman. He enjoyed manly work…such as riding his tractor or riding lawn mower hunting and fishing, and just plain working hard outside, or just simply walking the acreage. He took pleasure in mentoring people no matter their age. Besides playing the conga’s and dancing, ocean fishing was one of his most enjoyable. He would charter a crew of 30+ friends and family to go ocean fishing. He was so much fun to hang out with because he was so kool as a friend and dad. He always talked about how important family is how much we meant to him. A man as humble and loving as Melvin (Pops) will always be remembered by those of us who knew him and loved him. Although we will miss him, his smile, his patience, his love, we do take consolation in the good feelings of our memories as a family.
