JoAnn was born October 20, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of the late Eddie and Atla Zachery. She accepted Christ at an early age at Canada Drive Church of God in Christ and later fellowshipped with West Dallas Community Church. She attended Dallas public schools and upon graduation moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a singing career. During that time, she wrote, produced and recorded four songs, which became very popular among her family and friends. Her main hit was “I Want to Come Home Baby.” In the late 70s, she moved back to Texas and became involved in politics. She served as a community activist in West Dallas and started West Dallas Positive Thinking Group, and continued with many community projects until her health began to fail. She owned and operated many businesses in her lifetime. JoAnn was loved by many and never seemed to meet a stranger. She had a giving spirit and loved to sing!

Siblings preceding her in death: Eddie Ray Zachery, Patsy Sue Lewis, Leroy Zachery, Angela Zachery, Galberson Zachery, Colonel Zachery, Lucy Jackson, Betty Sue Johnson, Charles Zachery, and William F. Zachery.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Shelitha Diane Zachery of Dallas, Texas, Bridgette Brishun Levine (Louis) of Lancaster, Texas; brother, Earl Lewis Zachery (Betty); sister, Linda Faye Jones; nine grandchildren: Eric “Mondrell” and D’Orasay Zachery, Shatawne Williams, Tiffany Levine, Georgina and Georina Fleming, Taylor and Tamara Levine, and Antonia Chambers; 10 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
