Rodney Gayland Martin better known by friends as “ROC” was born May 19, 1969 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of Lou Etta Martin and Billie Carl Martin. He was the second child of three children, but first boy born to this union. During his childhood, he attended schools in Dallas, Texas. He attended Lincoln High School and was in the program for the Talented and Gifted. Rodney strong math background and could comfortably compete, academically. His true passion was to have a good time wherever he went.

He was known by his friends as a jokester and he loved laughing loud and continuous. He enjoyed his life, valued family and the long-term friendships he made throughout his life. He had a select group of friends with whom he played cards, dominoes, listened to music, and watched movies. Once he bonded with you, that bond remained unbroken. He definitely had his fair share of cousins and he had a strong love for his children.

He was baptized at Greater New Zion B.C. at an early age by the late Rev. A. V. Voice. Rodney was preceded in death by his father; Billie Carl Martin, his grandmother; Doretta Lawrence, his very special great aunt; Lula Mae Sharp and uncles; Larry Don Lawrence, Jerry Wayne Lawrence and Billie Earl Lawrence. Left to cherish his memories are sons: Jaymaul Robinson, Rodney G. Martin, Jr., Berrell Martin, daughter; Breana Martin, mother; Lou Etta Adeniyi, sister; Cynthia L. Martin, brother; Randy G. Martin, aunts; Juanita Harrison, Brenda Bell (Glenn), Dorothy Thompson and Dr. Sherian L. Smith and a host of aunts, cousins and close friends.
