Ronald Wayne Hunter passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017. As in life, he was surrounded by friends and family.
A true and eternal optimist throughout his life, Wayne never met a stranger, becoming fast friends with people from all walks of life. He was always happy to introduce you to Macho Man Randy Savage or whichever wrestler or celebrity currently held the belt, or get you front row tickets for the sold-out concert. Following his service in the US Air Force, Wayne enjoyed touring with the Four Tops, working with his beloved father, Skip Hunter, and buying and selling shoes. He was a sneaker aficionado – if he knew your size, he always had the perfect pair for you. Wayne loved all sports and spent years as a referee and umpire for Dallas youth sports.
A quick wit and readiness to ante up was just what Wayne looked for in a friend, and he found many over the course of his life. With luck ever on his side, Wayne’s prowess at the gambling tables ensured he brought home more than one oversized tournament check, but even on losing nights, you could find him holding court regaling staff and players alike with his larger than life stories. When he did have a win, he always wanted to share it with people he loved. His kindness was unparalleled.
Truly one of a kind, Wayne’s generous spirit and lovably unpredictable personality will be deeply missed by his friends and loved ones.
