Life Reflections

Mrs. Rosie Lee Cottonham (Henry), 84, daughter of Robert F. and Naomer Henry, Sr., was born on August 7, 1935 in Rohwer, Arkansas, the third of five children.

She was raised in Mississippi and moved with her family to South Bend, Indiana, where she graduated from Central High School.

Rosie accepted Christ as her Savior at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 13. She was very active in church, both singing in the choir and as a member of the youth organization. Rosie was united in holy matrimony to Arthur E. Cottonham Sr., her partner for life, on October 15, 1955. Their union was blessed with four children.

Rosie volunteered for political campaigns and had strong ties in the South Bend community. After working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for a local doctor, she then went to work for the City of South Bend where she eventually retired. Rosie and her husband then launched a cab and limousine business, where she went to work side-by-side riding and driving the cab with Arthur. They were an inseparable duo that was loved and well-known by the community in the city of South Bend. After the passing of Arthur she moved to Frisco Texas with her daughter and family. She found a renewed focus in Frisco attributed to her new Church home at New Life Community, her sister Barbara her very active granddaughters. Rosie enjoyed watching sports and, if she could, she would have watched them all day long, even Sunday dinners were scheduled around the game times. She enjoyed baseball, basketball, football and tennis matches with Serena Williams. Her favorite teams were Chicago anything – Bears, Bulls and Cubs. Rosie was a great cook serving food that fed your body and soul this was her way of showing love to anyone who crossed her doorway. Arthur hadn’t met a stranger often bringing them home and Rosie feed them. She was always a gracious host, with the kindest heart, and a smile, she showed you that you were loved.

Rosie Lee Cottonham, loving wife and mother of four children, departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2020, in Frisco, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur Cottonham; gregarious son Eric Vaughn Cottonham; brother, Robert F. Henry Jr.; and sister, Joretha Rhines.

Rosie leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Arthur “Arty” Cottonham, of Fort Worth, Texas and Rodney “Rocky” (Theresa) Cottonham of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter, Elisa (Henry) Junior of Frisco, Texas; sisters, Barbara Grant of Euless, Texas, Mae Ruth Cammack of North Liberty, Iowa; five grandchildren, Zoe, Maya, and Lena of Frisco, Texas, Cynethia and Donte Cottonham of Burtonsville Maryland; “adopted” daughter, Julia Bradshaw of Indianapolis, Indiana, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
