Mama Mime (Fairy Street Mama) born as Thalia Louise Sims on July 10, 1951 to the parentage of Loretta J. Barnett and the late Archie L. Sims. Thalia was raised in the Hamilton Park Community and attended Hamilton Park High School as well as participated in various activities that would later lead to a life of fulfilling accomplishments.
Thalia accepted Christ at an early age at the First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park under the late Dr. Jesse Lee Foster. She was an active member of the JL Foster Choir and whole heartedly used her musical talent that God gave her. She then enlisted in the US Army to serve her country where she served a tenure of four years. Upon her honorable discharge, she returned home to Dallas where she met and later married James Mason. She began to write and publish what would be the most memorable chapters of her life.
From an overwhelming desire to reach the youth, a presence known as The Fairy Street Mama evolved with the slogan “Get the Message Just Be A Kid.” Thalia began to carry this message to local churches, schools, and public events. She was often accompanied by neighborhood and surrounding children of whom she had a positive impact. Her first television performance with her kids group was the popular Mr. Peppermint Show. However, as her message spread, she was later featured on national television shows to include, Leeza Gibbons Show, Dr. Laura, and Insights. She also wrote and published a children’s activity book for children that addressed social issues and challenges targeted toward the youth.
She then formed “Best Friends Production”, a collaboration with her closest friend, Isla Johnson. They were then blessed to run an 8-year course of “Rapping With the Fairy”, a cable television show that allowed her to showcase local talent and artists. To this creation, she was accredited four Crystal Awards for Best TV Show under Community Affairs with Cable Access of Dallas.
Driven by the will to do the Lord’s work and reach the masses, she then fulfilled a vision for a ministry in the mime. Thus, Mama Mime was conceived. This ministry touched many and earned her the privilege to appear twice on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show. She received accolades from all who witnessed her powerful performances. Despite her failing health, she continued to do all she could to help and serve others. She was moved by a unique anointing that would not allow her to diminish in any way and often found ways to touch the lives of others. This vessel will be remembered and cherished by everyone who crossed her path on any level.
She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Sims; her brother, Eric Wayne Barnett; and her granddaughter, Amber Marquesia Sims.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Husband, James Mason; daughter, Felicia Brown; five grandchildren: Sam, Courtland, Ja’Lisa, D’Eric, and Roland; one great grandchild, E’Lyjah Brown; a Mother, Loretta Barnett; One sister, Sybil L. Chester; one brother, Roderick Sims, and a host of other relatives and friends.
