Tommy Reed Norwood was born on July 10, 1940 to Ed and Tommie Norwood in Maypearl, Texas. He committed his life to Christ at an early age. He went to school in Maypearl and Waxahachie, Texas. He graduated from Turner High school in 1958. He met the love of his life in 1959 and they were married in Oceans ide, California on September 14, 1965. Two daughters were born of this union.
Tommy enlisted in in the United States Marine Corps in 1962. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and also served in the Gulf War. He toured the world and retired after serving 30 distinguished years in the United States Marine Corp as the highest enlisted rank of E9 Master Gunnery Sergeant in 1992.
Tommy began his second career with the US Postal service and he retired after 10 years. He loved to golf and the Dallas Cowboys, but more importantly, he loved his family. Tommy was a caring and protective father. He was a special mentor to his niece Jacynthia Barner and Sedrick Norwood, who followed his footsteps into the service. He was also very close to his two nephews Eric Pettis and Eric Norwood who asked for his advice and spent precious time with him. Tommy loved his family and was always there for them. The joy of his life was his granddaughter Sophia. He felt so blessed to have time to know her. She loved her PawPaw and he loved his Boopie.
On December 18 2016, God called Tommy to his eternal home and gave him rest. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Tina Norwood of Arlington, Texas and Sheila Goralski (Matt) of The Colony, Texas; granddaughter, Sophia Goralski of The Colony, Texas; brother in law, NE Sansom of Alvarado; best friend/brother, Mike Cromartie (Shirley) of Land O’Lakes, Florida, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
