WILL THOMAS MAYFIELD was born on August 29, 1930 in Ft. Worth Texas to the parentage of William and Annie Mae Mayfield. He was the oldest of 6 children and was educated in the Ft. Worth Public School system, a graduate of I.M. Terrell High School.

Will Mayfield accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the family church, Mt. Rose Pentecostal Church in Ft. Worth.

On April 23, 1952, he and Helen Marie Frazier were married. This union was blessed with 2 sons, Timothy and Noel Mayfield and 2 daughters, Katherine and Paulette Mayfield. Additionally, Will and Helen made a loving home for sons, John Hinton Jr., LaValle Hinton Sr. and Toney Hinton.

For over 60 years, he was self-employed as a Handyman, Plumber, and Construction Worker. A man of many talents, he prided himself on being self-reliant and was instrumental in several local building projects including Baylor Hospital, Republic Bank and served as plumber for Mt. Moriah beginning in the early 1950’s. He built a strong foundation for his family by being hard working and diligent in his duties. He worked every day except for Sundays and never took a day off. Known for his kindness and generosity, he often performed after hours services for friends and neighbors in need at little to no charge.

Bro. Mayfield and his family united with the Mount Moriah Church family under the late Pastor B.F. Briggs. He served in various ministries including Board of Trustees and Member of the Male Chorus and Choir #2.   He will long be remembered for his stirring rendition of “The Old Ship of Zion”.

During his extended declining health, he remained faithful to his loved ones. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, BBQ’s, and any occasion that brought the family together. He valued the family unit and encouraged his family to remain close.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 son, John Hinton Jr.

Those who remain to celebrate his legacy include his wife, Helen Mayfield; 4 sons, LaValle (Betty) Hinton, Toney (Mary) Hinton, Timothy (Claudine) Mayfield and Noel Mayfield; 2 daughters, Kathryn and Paulette Mayfield; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; daughter in law, Merrell Hinton; brother in law, Percy Wilburn; lifelong friends, Rev. Don Bryant and Rev. Allan Wollos and a host of other relatives and friends.
