Willie Fitzgerald Hogg, better known as “Big Will”, was born on August 3, 1964, in Dallas, Texas. He was the second child of five children to both Lurlene Johnson and the late Willie Jewel Hogg.
After attending Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Dallas, Texas and accepting Christ at a young age, Willie fulfilled his passion by becoming a cook and worked at numerous locations, such as Southern Methodist University (SMU) and Methodist Dallas Medical Center (MDMC). He later transferred to Methodist Charlton Medical Center (MCMC) where he worked until the day of his passing.
Willie truly loved his family, friends, and co-workers, and was well known as the go-to person for sound advice, laughter, and even comfort when feeling down. Known as the “Big Teddy Bear”, his hugs can melt some of the deepest pains away and his smiles could brighten up some of the darkest days. He always seemed to have the time to spare and answers to soothe the soul – whether it was through heart-to-heart conversations, singing, dancing, or his favorite phrases, “Who’s gonna check me, boo?” or “Don’t come for me if I didn’t send you!”
On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, Willie received his wings and was called to eternal rest and to abide with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Jewel Hogg; his aunts; Betty Grace Quarles, Louise Hogg, and Ethelene Harris; and his uncles, Joe Ed Johnson, Ora Johnson, Richard Hogg, and Lois Joe Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his sweet memories: his loving mother, Lurlene Johnson; his sisters, Polly Johnson, Arletha Moore-Kazee (James), Helen Hogg, Adria Hogg, and Rosa Hogg; his beloved cousin that he loved and treated like a little sister, Jeanetta Harris-Mitchell (James); his nieces, Nicole Johnson & Brianna Hogg; his nephews, Larry Johnson (Kenisha), Cedrick Moore, Eric Moore, Desmond Hogg, and Joshua Hogg; his great niece and great nephew, J’Tyviea and Kahlen Johnson; his special and amazing friends, Catrina S., Terrell C., Arnold W., Hortense W. and Ray T.; a host of friends, relatives, and all who knew and loved him.
Willie will truly be missed, but never forgotten and always loved!
